Background
- Edmonton Golf Association takes great pride in the quality
of its competitors, its host facilities and the broad community
involvement.
- In order to make the events enjoyable to everyone involved,
Edmonton Golf Association requires participants to adhere to a set of
guidelines known as the Code of Conduct.
- The purpose of this Code is to identify expectations and
clarify actions that are considered violations and thereby assist
participants in understanding the consequences of their actions.
- These standards apply to the competitor and the caddie when
they are on golf course property, for a practice round, competition or
any other Edmonton Golf Association sanctioned event.
Dress
standards
- Individuals must be neat in appearance with respect to
personal appearance and personal grooming.
- Only tailored golf slacks , golf shirts with collars and
sleeves , and tailored golf shorts (cut to a length no higher than
approximately 4 inches above the knee, and not extending below the
knee) are acceptable.
- Shirts must be tucked in at the waist.
- Hats / visors must be worn properly, with the brim forward.
- Males shall remove hats / visors indoors at the host
facilities.
- The competitor or the caddie are not permitted to wear
traditional metal or ceramic tipped spikes. Golf shoes with alternative
spikeless soles (eg; softspikes ), golf teaching shoes, sneakers or
other soft soled shoes that will not penetrate or damage a soft putting
green.
- Unacceptable dress includes blue jeans, cut-offs, denim
shorts, athletic shorts, jammers, warm up or sweat pants, muscle
shirts, T-shirts, tank tops, shirts or pants that are rolled up, etc.
- No commercial logos, trademarks, numbers, or offensive
wording is acceptable, except that of golf clubs or golf manufacturers
or other organizations that are deemed acceptable by Edmonton Golf
Association.
- Should a host facility have stricter dress code, its policy
will apply.
Personal
conduct
- Individuals are expected to demonstrate respect for
players, club staff and members, employees, spectators, Edmonton Golf
Association officials and all others by exhibiting decorum consistent
with expectations of an Edmonton Golf Association member.
- Actions that are violations include abusive language, abuse
of the golf course or golf property, cheating, club throwing,
vandalism, display of bad temper, disrespect of fellow competitors,
spectators, volunteers, officials, and other conduct that is considered
detrimental to best interests of the game or Edmonton Golf Association.
- Use of illicit drugs is prohibited at an EGA sanctioned
event.
- Use of alcohol by a competitor or caddie during a
stipulated round is prohibited.
- Juniors are prohibited from using tobacco products or
alcohol on golf course property during an EGA sanctioned event or off
the golf course when a member of an Edmonton Golf Association team or
attending a sanctioned event.
- Cell phones, audible beepers, walkman, or other electronic
equipment are prohibited during competition. Such devices must not be
used or carried in an activated form that may disrupt play.
- Practicing or hitting golf balls on any public area other
than property specifically intended for the practice or play of golf is
prohibited.
- Players must attend mandatory meetings.
Violations
to the code of conduct
If a
violation occurs prior
to or during the event, the individual must immediately comply with the
code. This must be done without undue delay and then the Code must be
maintained.
Penalties:
1st offense - warning, 2 stroke penalty or disqualification.
2nd offense - 2 stroke penalty or disqualification.
3rd offense - disqualification.
Disciplinary
action
- Discipline during an event will be handled by event
Tournament Committee or Edmonton Golf Association representatives in
charge of the activity.
- Disqualifications for Code of Conduct violations will be
referred to the Discipline Committee. In the event that the Discipline
Committee determines a suspension is warranted, the competitor (and
parent or guardian in the case of a Junior) will be advised of the
suspension in writing and of their rights to appeal.
