 The
Edmonton Ladies' Golf Association was formed in 1934 with five clubs:
The Edmonton Country Club, The Municipal (Victoria), the Highlands Golf
Club, the Mayfair Golf & Country Club and the Prince Rupert. The
Highlands Golf Club hosted the first ELGA tournament in 1935 called the
City Golf Tourney. The tournament had two divisions, a silver and a
bronze. The silver division championship was won by Mrs. H.A. Lowe of
the Edmonton Country Club, and the bronze division championship by Mrs.
John Michaels of the Mayfair. Today the ELGA hosts two tournaments: the
Edmonton Ladies’ Golf Association Senior Tournament, and the Edmonton
Ladies’ Amateur Tournament. Each year, in rotation, a different club
hosts each event.
In 1932, Mr. R.C. Marshall donated the Marshall Cup to encourage
ladies’ golf between various clubs. We honour Mr. Marshall’s wisdom and
continue this tradition. On Mondays from mid-May to mid-June, eight
ladies represent their home club in a Marshall cup single match play in
twosomes, to promote camaraderie as well as serious competition.
You must sign up
with the Edmonton Golf Association
before you can register for any events.
Mr. L. Podersky donated a trophy to the Edmonton Ladies’ Golf
Association on June 22, 1948. This trophy, called the Fred Podersky
Memorial Trophy was donated in memory of his son who passed away March
24, 1948. The trophy was donated for ladies’ two-ball inter-club
alternate-shot team competition, intended for higher handicap golfers
to introduce them to formal competition play. Presently this match is
played on Thursdays from mid-May to mid-June with eight ladies
representing their home club.

In 2004 an amalgamation between the Edmonton Golf Association (EGA),
Edmonton Ladies Golf Association (ELGA) and the Edmonton Junior Golf
Association (EJGA) took place. Each association will maintain its own
executives and by-laws, and the ELGA President is a member of the
overall umbrella board.
